Jim Purdy, No. You don't get it. And what's with the sarcasm? Did you read anything else anywhere on my blog to get a sense of what I'm doing here? I don't advocate NO exercise. I advocate SMART exercise. Look up Paul Chek and learn something about cardio and weight training. Diet? Diets don't work. Wanna lose weight? Find out your metabolic type and eat accordingly. And drop your attitude. I don't appreciate it. Lisa
I think the point that the "back on trackers" are missing is that they're talking just like non-surgical folks talk. Back on track meaning eating right, moving right, right? :) However one defines right--clean eating, low-carb, low-fat, high-fat, Zone, etc.
So, if it's all about controlling food intake and moving more--what the hell was the surgery for? I though the point of WLS was to remove the ability to overeat--ie, smaller pouch, less digestive capability, lessened appetite. If the surgery is supposed to control appetite/ability to overeat, then why the talk about controlling intake. Isn't the pouch/rewiring controlling the appetite/intake? Isnt' that why it's a tool?
If it eventually fails to control appetite/intake, then it's a tool that doesn't work longterm. If it doesn't work longterm, then why undergo major surgery? I dunno.
If it's all about diet and exercise (and I do believe, ultimately, that's what we're left with), along with the tools of therapy (for emotional/psych issues) and behavioral modification aids, etc--then why surgery? This is what I keep coming back to. Why surgery if it's gonna, down the line, revert to diet...exercise..diet...exercise.
Is the surgery only giving one a moment in the slimming sun. That's a high price for that moment.
I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. My question was meant as a serious question, asking for better alternatives. Unfortunately, I worded it in what I meant as a light-hearted way. Obviously, the written word does not communicate nuances in the same way as verbal communications and facial expressions. Again, I apologize, and I won't ever bother you again.
Jim, Sincere apology accepted. Sorry that I got so defensive...... Once Upon, I've asked myself that same question a million times. Why surgery if there is a lifestyle change happening? Good questions. I will answer in today's blog. L
All I can see as I read your latest posts is the gray-tinged complexion of a mom at my son's school... Sure she's lost a tremendous amt of wt w/her WLS [in the early mos she was elated & told everyone]; but now she looks exhausted, sickly, & yes, STARVED DOWN. She smiled a lot more when she was fat!

Okay, I get it.
The video says intense exercise is bad, so I won't exercise.
The blog thread says (post-WLS) diets fail, so I won't diet. (I'm not a WLS person, anyway.)
So, don't exercise, don't diet, and don't feel guilty. Got it! Thanks!
But ... uh ... what should I do to lose weight?
