Your story today made me cry. I could so identify with your situation. It makes me afraid to have knee replacement surgery. In time I will just have to do it whether or not I want to. Too bad your doctor didn't put a catheter in while you were under anestesia. It would have solved the bathroom issues. :(
Lisa, I am sorry to hear you fell. Using a bedpan is a kind of humiliating experience. Having it improperly placed and missing it is even harder. Ask for, insist on, expect assistance to the bathroom, even if it takes 2 people to assist you safely. Ask for a walker at your bedside that you can bring into the bathroom with you. Hospital falls are a BIG DEAL. Your safety is of highest importance. Nurse response to Brenda - catheters are one of the leading causes of hospital aquired infections and should never be used for the purposes of avoiding bedpans or bathroom visits. Catheter aquired urinary tract infections are an unacceptable complication.

so sorry you fell. Reminds me of my many hospital visits. I hope your knee heal quickly and thank goodness for those angels.
