The New York Stock Exchange was 3 feet underwater.
People were getting around lower Manhattan in boats.
In my little section of the world, Clifton, NJ, we lost power, trees went down, branches crashed on top of cars, and four power poles on Allwood Road toppled, pulling the power lines into the street.
I've never been without power for so long.
My parents have no heat or electricity but they do have hot water, gas, and clean tap water.
I've been living by candlelight and listening to the radio with my headphones (found my old Sony Walkman).
My cats are fine, of course.
They were at the window watching the flying debris during the storm.
Now they're snuggling up to me for warmth.
I'm running the oven with the oven door open to heat my apartment.
My frozen food is still frozen in the freezer.
I put my sacred Amish raw milk on the front porch to stay cool.
I have renewed appreciation for modern conveniences.
I have renewed appreciation for heat on a cold night and a hot shower in the morning.
I pray for anyone who is in need at this time.
I don't have it so bad.
My car has gas.
My tap water is drinkable.
My cell phone is working for now.
I have friends who have power and WiFi who are willing to invite me over...and feed me.
I didn't have to evacuate.
No flooding.
