Quick blog today.
Knee update: I traded in my scooter for a wheelchair.
The scooter was not working to keep the weight off my knee.
I am now rolling around like John Lock saying, "Never tell me what I can't do!"
Nutrition update: I have a headache from abstaining from caffeine and dairy.
I'm eating protein with EVERYTHING I put in my mouth.
I'm craving everything from diet soda to ice cream.
Plain water never tasted so awful.
It's funny how ADDICTION DRIVEN we are and don't even know it.
Addictive poisons are in everything from Propel water to sugar free IceBreakers.
I'm going through withdrawals.
And here's what I WANTED to talk about today.
An excerpt from Hal's blog about his presentation at a Harvard Coop bookstore:
Guess who the "woman revealing her abdomen days after gastric bypass surgery" is??
Guess what woman in her fifties probably can't even look at herself naked in the mirror let alone me or a nude wizard?
Gotta go teach now
wheelchair and all.

I had tried to give up caffeine a few years ago and got violently sick. Throwing up, migraines, you name it. When I unexpectedly got pregnant, I gave up caffeine cold turkey again and had NO SYMPTOMS! Our bodies and minds are amazing. I thought that I was going to be miserable, but I think my body knew what it had to do for the good of my baby. Now I only occasionally have a little caffeine, but refuse to be caught in its grip again. My asthma and acid reflux are better being off it and I love not craving it. (Plus I still breastfeed so I don't want it going to my daughter.)
Now sugar...that is a demon for sure!
I found your blog after searching for more insight into the myth of loose skin and weight loss. If the myth isn't a myth then I appear to be looking at 15 to 20k in surgery. But if it’s something that’s been hyped up by plastic surgery outfits and if I have enough stamina to continue moving and get rid of my "loose" skin then I’m only looking at 6k for a bit of a breast lift. You had written a post about it in 2006 and I enjoyed it enough to bounce around your blog a bit longer.
In short, I'm not 100% in the same situation as you, but I sympathize and definitely can relate. I have about 52lbs to lose in order to get to my target of 158lbs. What I really want is to be able to hike in the mountains without feeling so utterly tired. I'm working on cardio and muscle build at the same time to minimize the issue of “loose skin”. So while I can relate to you on a number of issues. Getting off caffeine and getting an injury are two recent ones.
I gave up coffee cold turkey the Friday before Memorial Day weekend and suffered through migraines, light sensitivity, body aches and weakness for those three days. Now instead of four to six cups of coffee a day, I’m drinking a cup or two of green tea and a few cups of caffeine free herbal blends. I recommend it, this way you keep hydrated, get the added health benefits of teas and keep the comforting habit of a warm cup in hand during the work day. But my goodness an hour doesn’t go by without my brain asking for a cup of Joe. This is the third time I've tried to limit my caffeine intake and it will be the last. No more coffee.
Now, last week I also injured my foot while jogging. It's something I was afraid would happen and happens to many people who aren't active and then become so. An injury to discourage us from moving! But I won’t let that happen and you won’t let yours do you in either. Why? Because, the answer is trite, you can't. That's all.
Anyways, hun, while you’re not where you might want to be, you are an inspiration because you’re actually moving along the path to your goals. Maybe flailing along it, but it seems that’s what most of us in the real world do. We flail. Maybe it’s the state of the world now that there are so many regular people who simply sit down and give up because it’s just not as easy as they where led to believe by those who inhabit the glossy and edited reality of Media.
So, inspiration is sought in those who keep struggling. To finish off my long winded comment I have this to say, don’t let the people who control the game get to you. Be safe, be careful, take care and stay true to your goals....
